i have just discovered the stereoscopsis research of bella julesz  and his random dot imagery 1971 that was the forefront of auto stereogram he discovered how each eye sees things shifted from the other and when the two images are combined depth percerption is created.

saccades – when the eyes dart from place to place

fixations – when the eye is fixed
